Areas Treated with Dermal Fillers and PRFM for Youthful Appearance |
What is Platelet
Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM)?
Platelet-rich fibrin
matrix (PRFM) involves injection of the patient's own plasma containing platelets,
for the treatment of wrinkles and for volume restoration. It is a modification
to the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) known popularly as the "vampire
facelift" or “Plasma facelift” and belongs to the field of regenerative
medical science for the repair and rejuvenation of cellular wear and tear.
How does PRFM repair
wrinkles and folds?
Platelet Rich
Fibrin Matrix forms a scaffold in which new cells, blood capillaries and
collagen is laid. It mimics the natural repair process of the body using the
patient's natural biology to address skin defects and volume loss, triggering
production of new cells and collagen and remodelling the existing matrix.
What are dermal
fillers?
Currently the most
popular options for wrinkle correction are Non Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic
Acid (NASHA) dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Esthelis. These are
available as sterile pre-filled syringes. When injected they lift the fold by
volumizing the subjacent tissues. Effects last for 6-18 months depending on the
type of filler used. NASHA dermal fillers are non-allergenic, are FDA approved
and have a proven safety profile.
Platelet Rich Fibrin
Matrix an all natural dermal filler?
Platelet Rich
Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) are now being used as wrinkle filler into the laugh lines,
jowls, tear trough and cheek area by doctors who have already pioneered the PRP
treatment protocols. The PRFM filler requires about 30 minutes for each
treatment, similar to a Juvederm or Restylane procedure.
Results of PRFM as
wrinkle filler?
The results are
visible instantly with complete lifting of the fold. There is some resorption
over the next 2-7 days, with gradual improvement in the injected area over the
next 3-5 weeks. Final correction is expected at 6-8 weeks and can last as long
as 18 months. Better results are seen with a total of 2-3 treatments given 3-4
months apart. Patients can expect to see better results as they receive more
treatments. With time, the results of PRFM fillers get better and better.
Who should consider
a PRFM filler treatment?
This procedure is suitable for any one who
wishes to reduce volume loss, wrinkles, folds, fine lines and textural changes
of the skin. It will definitely appeal to those who
are looking for a natural approach to volumizing the face and treating or reducing
wrinkles. Best results are achieved when PRFM fillers are started in early or
mid 30’s as a preventive rather than reparative procedure.
Are there any side
effects?
Because this filler
is made from the patient's own blood, there is no risk for rejection,
infection, or an allergic reaction.
How much does PRFM
filler cost?
Cost of the Platelet
Rich Fibrin Matrix procedure at my clinic is generally similar or less than
that of hyaluronic dermal fillers and begins at Rs.12000 on wards per
treatment depending on the extent of required treatment.
Can Platelet Rich
Plasma fillers be combined with other cosmetic treatments?
This procedure can
be combined with Botox injections, and laser rejuvenation, as well as facial
surgery. This offers the benefit of instant results with long term regenerative
effect. PRFM treatment is very promising in facial restoration.
Words of wisdom
The single most
important factor for a good PRFM or PRP procedure is the processing of the
patient’s blood. To ensure maximum corrective benefit, the right parameters
need to be set. Results are much more dependable if the processing of the
sample is done on the spot by the treating dermatologist.
Keep looking
beautiful
